Paula Cherrington graduated from the Speech and Language Pathology Program at De Montfort University, Leicester, England, in 1995. She has worked as a general paediatric therapist and has also worked as a specialist in the Autism field in various positions.
Paula has particular expertise in Autism, Aspergers and PDD (Pervasive Development Disorder), as well as Non-verbal Learning Disorder. She also has an interest in Apraxia, early language development, and social language and pragmatic skill development. Paula has worked extensively with children receiving Program Unit Funding (PUF) and/or Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) funding.
Paula started working in Private Practice in 2000 and established her company, Growing Communication Inc. in 2007.
Growing Communication accepts referrals for clients from birth to 18 years old and can provide the following.
- Assessment, including formal and informal measures.
- Written reports and updates as required.
- Consultations to parents, school staff or other professionals involved with the child in order to ensure information is shared between all relevant parties.
- Office based, individual Speech and Language Pathology sessions to address language, speech and/or social language issues.
- Small group therapy (where appropriate)
- Establish goals for each child and provide feedback and home programming suggestions to consolidate skills targeted in Therapy.
It is important that therapy is fun and motivating for the child and that the child’s parents are actively involved in the therapy process. Working as a team enables the child to grow towards their full communication potential.
